Courtland joined the U.S. Navy following the September 11, 2001 attacks, where he served as an intelligence analyst. His experience in the Navy taught him the value of the “Team.” Courtland wants to take his lessons from the Navy with him to the Senate. As a leader, Courtland will target and weed out special interest and self-serving politicians, and reconstruct a high functioning Senate to better serve the people. Courtland left the Navy in 2011 to complete an ALB in Government from Harvard University. At Harvard, Courtland met and was engaged to Chanel Rion. After her graduation, both moved back to Missouri to start a family.
